My first moth in my first 'moth trap' set up is a Common Quaker! Just the one moth but it's a start.

Forest of Dean re-visited....26th-28th February 2016
A return visit and on this trip staying in Hillersland which was handy as Symonds Yat Rock is just a hop skip and a jump away.
Good views of a solitary Hawfinch were had at Parkend along with Nuthatch and the usual Tits, Finches and a couple of Song Thrush.
Cannop Ponds was not such of a mudbath to walk around as on the last visit but wellies were still needed. Mandarins, Coots, Moorhens, Mallards, Mute Swans, Tufted Ducks and Little Grebes were on and around the water. On and around the feeders were Nuthatch, Marsh, Great, Blue and Coal Tits, Dunnocks, Blackbirds, Robins and Chaffinches.
New Fancy View was a little more productive than the last visit with better Goshawk views but still fairly distant...maybe a further visit will be needed.;-) Common Buzzard and a Blue Tit were the only other species seen here on this visit.
Woorgreens Lake and Marsh is a 9-hectare Nature Reserve owned by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. Long-tailed Tits, Goldcrests, Blue and Great Tits were sighted on the walk and though distant good scope views were enjoyed of 3 Crossbills (2 m & 1 f) as they made their way along the tops of conifers! This is a huge reserve and it would have been good to have given it more time, maybe on a future trip to the Forest of Dean
A small herd of Fallow Deer as they emerged from the trees opposite the viewing point were a treat to see at Symonds Yat Rock, a Fox was also sighted along an embankment and strangely the Pheasants that were feeding along the embankments in good numbers seemingly ignored the Fox!
Highlight bird species seen were Raven, Peregrine (perched), Common Buzzard and a Goshawk which gave great views as it circled over the trees below the viewpoint and finally out of sight...Woodpigeons alerted us to the Goshawk as they took flight once it appeared!
My thanks go to my Daughter for the Goshawk pics....I didn't manage a single one!

Finally a Twenty-plume Moth staying indoors and keeping warm at the guest house! A sensible moth!
It had been another super weekend in a super area! Cold weather but refreshing.....ok, I will be truthful it was very cold but still refreshing!!!
