A super Black Redstart and a couple of territorial Robins! 22/10/20

I had been informed of a Black Redstart that had been sighted the previous day in a churchyard just a few miles away from my home! It was a lovely sunny morning with good light so a good time to go and see if it was still about in the churchyard! It was still there and at times being harrassed by a couple of Robins! It did not seem too perturbed and gave super scope views as it perched on headstones and at times took flight to the church roof A smart looking bird! Bird species also seen were: Blue and Great Tits, Blackbird, Mistle Thrush, Jay, Sparrowhawk,Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Heron and a Common Buzzard heard and later sighted perched on a post! The Black Redstart was a first for me in the UK! Phone scoped images taken by my Daughter, who incidentally had found the Black Redstart the previous day...:-)
Images I took with my camera.

  1. I get the impression that black redstarts are being seen a lot more than they used to be

    1. I did wonder if the one I saw was a UK breeder or UK Wintering bird, be nice to think it was a UK breeder.

The last one I saw was on a beach in N. Wales.......can't wait till I can get to the coast again, think I'm missing that more than anything else!!
